When it comes to the SkillsUSA Leadership Conference and Skills Competition success runs in the Prus family. This past weekend Hilton High School and WEMOCO CTE Center student Evan, a junior, took second place with three other teammates in the Teamworks event at the New York State Fairgrounds. Evan’s brother, Iliya, who graduated from Hilton last year took third in the same competition in 2023 and first the year before. Iliya advanced to the 2022 SkillsUSA National conference in Atlanta where he and his teammates placed 14th out of 43 teams competing.
Evan is completing his first year of the HVAC/ Plumbing program that WEMOCO offers to Hilton High junior and senior students who are eligible. The competition is designed to evaluate team preparation for future employment and to recognize outstanding students for excellence and professionalism in the field of residential carpentry, roofing, masonry, plumbing, electrical and teamwork skills.
The brothers have now accumulated a gold, silver and bronze medal with the potential for more in 2025.
Congratulations to Evan from everyone at Hilton Central Schools.
Congratulations to senior Jude Hare who won The 'H' Factor Talent Show with his performance of "Out There" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He is pictured with Principal Dr. Jeff Green.
Students in Sunnie Tobias’ Exploring Health Careers class had a chance to learn about Holistic medicine from Stephanie Krebs, owner of Body Sense Healthcare and Nutrition in Attica.
Ms. Krebs spoke to the students about the frequencies in the human body and how reading those frequencies can lead to non-traditional treatments. She also emphasized the importance of caring for not only their bodies, but their minds and emotional health as well. She even gave each person in the class a total body analysis to determine what they might need more, or less of in their diets.
This was one of a series of visits from people in the health care field that will be taking place. Other speakers include a paramedic, a nurse in pediatric heart surgery, a chiropractor, and a midwife.
It was a weekend to remember for Northwood’s 5th grade inventors in Melanie Klock’s REACH Class who competed in the Western New York Invention Convention. Inventors were randomly placed in three different groups and competed against more that 250 other inventors.
At the end of the day there was one student who was named Inventor of the Year and chosen to compete at the National Invention Convention in Dearborn, Michigan in June, Carter Tsang and his invention, Buzz Off!
Congratulations to Carter and everyone who took part, and to the following students who won awards in each group:
Group A:

Fantastic job by our Transportation Department which has spent time this week teaching our students about bus safety. They give these lessons three times a year at our elementary schools, going over safety features on the bus and how to evacuate in case of an emergency.
Need a way to organize all your charging cords, a device to locate your dog in case they get lost, how about something to reduce that pesky and dangerous glare through the windshield when you're driving? If any of those sound like something you could use, then Northwood’s Invention Convention had what you were looking for.
Fifth grade students in the REACH class presented their creations in the auditorium on April 25. What these students might lack in experience, they make up for with creativity and enthusiasm. Students did research to discover common problems, used the design process to produce solutions and then planned, designed and created their inventions.
These presentations served as a warmup for the Western New York State Invention Convention which will be held this weekend in Buffalo. The top finalists from there will move on to the National Invention Convention at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Northwood students have won the state competition for the last two years so hopefully they can make it three in a row!
A very special thanks to Cheryl Lee and Kim Browne who served as our judges.
Meet Hilton hero Kim Phillips: "Kim is always here bright and early to make sure that all the bus runs are covered before anyone else, and we know how short we have been this year. This has not been an easy job. Kim is very welcoming and approachable with any and all issues that arise with a smile on her face. She will be VERY missed when she retires in June." Thanks for all you do!
On April 24 8th grade students traveled to the high school to see a performance of Survivors performed by JCC’s Center Stage. The show presents the Holocaust through the eyes of ten Rochester-based survivors portrayed by six actors.
Following the performance students had a chance to comment on the production as well as ask questions of the cast members.
Special thanks to:
• Matt D'Augustine and Colleen Grego for planning and logistics
• The eighth-grade teachers for chaperoning
• Assistant Principal Steve Sorensen
• The transportation department for busing the students to the high school
• Kim Rudd for sound and technical support
• The High School Administration for providing the auditorium
• Kristen Paolini for funding the show
• The students for being such a great audience
• The actors who put on an amazing, and memorable performance
Last night's "H Factor" Talent Show had it all; from musicians and dancers to magicians and even a contortionist! Congratulations to senior Jude Hare who took top honors with his performance of "Out There" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Here's why Sarah Boily is a Hilton Hero: "Without a doubt, Sarah goes above and beyond in her everyday lesson planning and teaching. She helps every student make a connection to the content that she is teaching, and spends countless hours planning and taking care of the little details that really bring history to life in the 21st century. She even spends time creating elaborate bulletin boards to acknowledge and celebrate world holidays and historic events that may not be covered in class. She helps to make learning meaningful and fun for everyone!"
Night at the Village was a night of pizza, pups, pics, games, and most importantly, BOOKS! The One School, One Book launch was a chance for families to pick up this year's selection, "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" by Chris Grabenstein. Families will read the book together over the next few weeks. The event strives to increase parental involvement, bridge the home-school connection, and build a true community of readers.
Check out Mr. Feeney's nomination! "Callen sets a wonderful example for his students every day. He makes everyone feel welcome in his class as he shows a genuine interest in every student. He is always willing to listen to students and he is thoughtful in his responses. His creates an environment that emphasizes kindness and curiosity!"
