Welcome to our newest staff! #Welcoming #Affirming #CadetProud
Hilton High School students and staff went above and beyond to help those less fortunate this holiday season. The first of three projects provided gifts for 14 residents of DePaul Assisted Living and Mental Health facilities through DePaul’s Holiday Helpers program. Students and staff purchased and donated the holiday wish list items and made 14 individuals’ holidays brighter.
The school also collected various holiday gifts for children ages 0-10, such as toys, books, dolls, crafts, and games, that were donated to the Society for the Protection and Care of Children. In all, about 15 bags of gifts were donated!
Lastly, Student Council set up a Giving Tree in the main foyer filled with ornaments with gift ideas that students and staff could purchase and donate to the Golisano Children’s Hospital. Shown are Student Council officers (l-r) Joey Piperni, president; Sydney Fisher, vice president; Olivia Koegel, secretary; and David Padoleski, treasurer.
Many thanks to Hilton High School students and staff for their generous donations!
QUEST students in the REACH gifted and talented program are working on an inquiry into the different forms of engineering. Parent Kevin Howell, a mechanical engineer for the City of Rochester, volunteered to give a presentation on engineering and had the students do a hands on activity in which they had to engineer how to fit all the required plumbing/piping and electrical in the ceiling of a hotel hallway. Thank you, Mr. Howell!
Claire consistently offers each of her students a safe place to be themselves, that is how Claire demonstrates the characteristics of being welcoming and affirming and curious not judgmental says a colleague. The person goes on to say that she "encourages an atmosphere that supports their physical, social, and mental health. She treats students with kindness and respect while pushing them to be their best. Her room is always filled with curiosity, laughter, and a sense of belonging. She is continuously trying new things to be creative and to engage the entire group. Claire is the definition of welcoming and it is because of this that she is beloved by both her students and colleagues."
The Village Advanced Band had guest conductor, Nancy Russo, join their rehearsal this morning. Ms. Russo, a retired Hilton band director and current Nazareth University professor, helped get the students ready for their upcoming concert. The Village Advanced Band and Choruses have their winter concert on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at Hilton High School. Come on out to hear these fabulous student musicians!
On Friday, Village Elementary students celebrated JOY Day with fun holiday activities, like making ornaments, decorating cookies, playing holiday BINGO, and testing miniature Santa parachutes! MANY thanks go to all of the parent volunteers and especially to the High School Introduction to Teaching class for working with the first graders. It was a great way to kick off the holiday season!
This week our first winter concerts will be held at the high school auditorium. Check out when each of the school groups will perform below!
Special Education Day commemorates the signing of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act into law on this day in 1975 (IDEA). IDEA granted access to children with special needs to free and quality public education. Thank you to all of our Special Education Staff for making a difference in our students' lives! #specialeducationday
Congratulations to ALL of our fall varsity teams for earning New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) scholar athlete honors!
How has Kelly demonstrated the characteristics of welcoming and affirming and/or curious, not judgmental? A colleague writes, “Mrs. Tellgren takes immense joy in teaching and in her relationships with her students. She sees the best in each one of her students, appreciates their unique gifts and talents, and makes them feel valued each day at school, both inside and outside of her classroom.”
Students in Maria Vowles’ Forensics class at Hilton High School are working on their blood spatter lab this week. Students modeled different types of spatter patterns that result from injuries with various weapons, such as arterial spurting resulting from an injury to an artery. Students used syringes and fake blood to model blood leaving the body under pressure. They also modeled cast-off from a weapon – a popsicle stick in place of a knife – and saw the pattern that would result from blood leaving the weapon and casting onto the wall. Forensics is a half year elective for students grades 11 and 12.
QUEST students enjoyed a visit from Perry Ground, a Turtle Clan member of the Onondaga Nation, before Thanksgiving. Ground has been telling stories for more than 25 years as a way of educating people about the culture, beliefs, and history of the Haudenosaunee (sometimes known as Iroquois) Confederacy. The students loved hearing and being part of The Great Bear and other stories Ground shared in his very energetic, fun, and engaging style.
According to her department leader, Sandra demonstrates the characteristics of welcoming and affirming and/or curious, not judgmental by taking the lead with events and luncheons. He goes on to say “she takes the time to be sure that all are welcome, feel comfortable, and enjoy their time in our department. Examples include our Fall Luncheon in October, a complete Turkey meal in November, a Holiday luncheon in December, and our Chocolate and Chili event in February.”
Wishing you, your families, loved ones, and friends a happy and healthy holiday!

Thank you, Emily, for your service to our nation and the Hilton Central School District!
The third grade Challenge Group at Northwood had a special visitor via Zoom this week – Sara McAllister, a research mechanical engineer at the Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory in Montana. McAllister's research interests include understanding fundamental combustion and heat transfer processes related to the spread of wildfires. Students prepared questions and were excited to learn more about her career and how her work has helped communities deal with wildfires.
“During our Challenge Group sessions, students have enjoyed researching and journaling about their amazing experiences chasing storms around the country,” said Melanie Klock, REACH teacher. “They have traveled virtually to Louisiana to witness a hurricane, Minnesota to see a blizzard, California to see a wildfire, and then Kansas for our last storm, a tornado.”
