Hilton High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct seven new members on Thursday, Dec. 28. This year’s honored Hilton CSD athletes and coach are Marjorie Wyant (Teacher/Coach), Paige “Wray” Stoll '08 (Gymnastics, Track and Field), Andrew Pirnie – '11 (Track and Field), Zoe Camillaci '15 (Track and Field), Simon Garno '16 (Soccer, Tennis), Louie DePrez '17 (Wrestling), and Yianni Diakomihalis '17 (Wrestling).
The Hilton High School Sports Hall of Fame annually recognizes those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Hilton athletic program and in some cases, at a higher level, through their participation as athletes, coaches, or administrators. The 2023 Induction Ceremony will be held at Hilton High School on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 4:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. All members of the Hilton Athletic Hall of Fame and community members are invited to attend the presentation of inductees in the high school auditorium. The inductees also will be recognized and honored at the Boys Basketball Annual Hall of Fame Holiday Tournament at approximately 6:15 p.m., right before the game begins.
Qualifications for admission to the Sports Hall of Fame are: graduate of Hilton High School of at least five years and completed collegiate career, or coach who has been retired from coaching in the Hilton Central School District; individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Hilton sports program or have established themselves in the field of athletics on the local, state, national or international level - professional, Olympic, college athlete, coach, etc.; a student who, while in high school, received athletic honors such as All-American, All-State, All-Greater Rochester, State/Sectional Championship, Athlete of the Year, or All-County, (overall team success and multiple-sport participation may also be considered); any student who participated in Hilton High School athletics may be considered under special circumstances.
Members of the selection committee are: Brian Bartalo, Holley CSD superintendent and former Hilton High School principal and swim coach; Amy Centola, varsity softball coach and teacher; Michael Giruzzi, retired Hilton CSD athletic director; Craig Gross, teacher and varsity wrestling coach; Ken Krause, teacher and former varsity boys soccer coach; Jeff Merkel '85 athlete and track, cross country coach; Tara Merino, teacher, coach and current athletic coordinator; Steve Sorensen '87 athlete, former varsity girls soccer coach and current Merton Williams Middle School assistant principal; Mike Szczepanik, former girls cross country and track and field coach; and Jeffrey Wheaton, director of physical education, health and athletics.
