The Hilton Central School District is mourning the loss of Larry Minch, a man who had an impact on countless lives in our community.
Mr. Minch, who recently retired, was the alternative to suspension educator at Merton Williams Middle School and a longtime coach in the district, including 30 as a coach in the football program. A fixture on the sidelines at football games, for many players, he was the person who introduced them to Cadet Football.
Larry’s thoughts about what it means to be a Cadet can best be summed up by a message he wrote on a board before a recent sectional football game.
"Whether you win or lose this Sunday, after the field is empty and all the people have gone home you will be lying in your bed and you have to ask yourself this. Did I give everything? Did I do everything I could to be the best player, the best teammate I could be? Then a smile will come across your face because you know that you did, because you are a Hilton Football Player. AND THAT’S JUST HOW IT IS."
He also coached girls modified and JV lacrosse and was a program assistant for that sport. While coaching was something he was very passionate about, it was his ability to connect with students who needed extra guidance that made him so special. He was loved and respected by everyone who came in contact with him.
According to Merton Williams Principal Dr. Marc D’Amico, “To know Larrry was to love Larry.”
We send our deepest condolences to Larry’s family and all those who knew him and love him. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 3-8 at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Leo’s.

Last week Merton Williams 8th graders got the chance to see some great sights-both in our area and some not so close. About 230 students spent three days visiting Gettysburg and Washington, DC while another 30 went to the Seneca Park Zoo, the Memorial Art Gallery and Genesee Country Village and Museum.
Special thanks to the advisors and chaperones who put in so much work to make these educational trips possible, and to the Hilton Alumni Association whose generous grants helped support a portion of the expenses for individual students.
