Yesterday, the SADD Club and the Best Buddie Club at Merton Williams joined up together for a “Spring Clean Up”.
Students along with the club advisors, (Ms. Brown/Mr. Weber Buddie club and Ms. Drexler SADD club) walked around the school picking up trash. They also cleaned up inside the building by taking old flyers off the walls. This was a great experience combining the 2 clubs. It gave students an opportunity to meet new friends as they gave back to their community.
Thanks to our friends from Foodlink and the Hilton-Parma Emergency Food Shelf for visiting Merton Williams to talk to students about the importance of donating to the school's current food drive.
The sets, the costumes, the dancing, and the singing! All great reasons to see this weekend's production of Little Mermaid Jr. at Merton Williams-the curtain goes up tonight with a 7 p.m. performance. There are two shows tomorrow, at 2 and 7.

Students in Health Science Classes at Merton Williams are completing the American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED Certification. The course follows all American Red Cross materials and instructions, allowing students to receive their 2-year certification. Topics that are covered are CPR for adults, child and infant, use of an AED machine, Life threatening injuries and bleeding, choking, and assisting with an Asthma and Epinephrine injector.

What a great weekend at the Empire State Games for 3 Hilton students. Competing in Lake Placid, Lydia Antonini, a 6th grader at Northwood took 1st Place in Excel Preliminary Plus Girls, Lindsey Bleier, a High School senior took 4th Place in Aspire 3 Girls, and Ella Veltz, an 8th grader at Merton Williams finished 4th in Excel Juvenile Girls. Great job Ladies!
Jennifer exemplifies being People First by going above and beyond to help kids...even if that means going out in the rain to pull 4 garbage bags out of the dumpster and then digging through them to help find a student's retainer...which she did (and she FOUND the retainer!)
Merton Williams 7th graders have worked very hard researching about young teen stress during their MYP Mental Health planner in Ms. Drex classes.
Students engaged in peer-to-peer conversations, analyzing teen trends, and exploring difficult stress topics a 7th grader may experience. Students then developed a personal coping skill that can support them during stressful times and taught their peers the importance of having some type of coping skill.
Great job by the students at Merton Williams; thier annual food drive collected around 500 items for the Hilton-Parma Foodshelf.
Merton Williams took part in Learning Walks this week with Oliver Middle School in Brockport. On Tuesday 6 MW staff members went to see what a typical day there is like and today they returned the favor. Here our guests are joined by student leaders who acted as hosts.
The Students Against Destructive Decisions Club (SADD) at Merton Williams celebrated Gratitude Week by decorating yellow cupcakes for the school's staff. Each one came with a note which read, "The color yellow can symbolize joy, happiness, and gratitude. Thank you for all you do. We appreciate you. From the SADD/FUN CLUB."

The Modified B girls volleyball team at Merton Williams held a "Breast Cancer Awareness / Memory" event last night. Each player wrote a quote or read a personal story. The game was in honor of all friends and families affected by Breast Cancer. #WeAreHilton
On October 16, Merton Williams Middle School hosted best-selling middle grade author Janae Marks as part of the Hilton Community Reads initiative started this year. In total, over 100 students attended the event, many getting the chance to talk with Janae Marks while getting their copies of From the Desk of Zoe Washington signed by the author. Janae Marks also held an event at the Parma Public Library in the evening for community members.
Over 100 free copies of the book were distributed to students and community members, made possible through a We Need Diverse Books "Educators Making a Difference" grant received by ELA teacher Michael Billotti. Janae's visit was funded by a classroom grant through the Hilton Alumni Association. Michael Billotti said, "I'm so grateful to the Hilton Alumni Association for their generosity in helping us to bring a popular, contemporary author to our community! The kids were buzzing about it all day!"
